R O O K _ I F V

The alien ship that was floating high above the center of the city had just dropped thousands of pod upon the masses who gathered to stare at the behemoth in wonderment. At first the pods floated harmlessly above the crowd and emitted an almost pleasurable, pulsing hum as they danced about on some invisible breeze. The crowd was brought out of its trance like daze when the first pod descended and cleaved three bystanders in half with some mysteriously destructive beam of light.

The crowd panicked and quickly started to run about as more and more of the pods emitted light beams of death. The rapid response teams arrived upon the scene in their Rook IFV just as the second wave of pods started to descend out of the ship's bowels.

The pods seemed aware of the threat that the newly arrived armored vehicles presented and proceeded to clump into formations of 10 to 12 pods and produce a more powerful light beam. These light beams rendered three of the Rooks to raging infernos within seconds. Not waiting or wanting the spheres to recharge the remaining Rooks opened fire with everything they had.

Armed with various rockets, missiles and a duel 40mm, high velocity cannon, the city seemed to erupt in a staccato of deafening blasts, screeches and explosions echoed throughout the man-made canyons of concrete, glass and steel.

The bombardment was relentless for the next minute as the Rooks unloaded all munitions on the strange orbs. The order was given to cease fire to see if the spheres were dispatched. As the smoke drifted off like weary apparition, all were shocked and dismayed seeing that the orbs were still there and almost with no effect.

As the order to reload came over the com channels the orbs started a new dance and formed into an almost pyramid shape. Before any of the Rooks were able to volley a second round at the spheres, a new and more ominous light started to be emitted from their direction.
